On January 9, 1940, in the quiet town of Slaton, TX, an earthly angel named Gay Francis Trotty entered the world. Little did anyone know that this sweet country girl would leave an indelible mark through her heart of gold, acceptance, and boundless love for family and everyone she encountered. A high school graduate was not in the cards for her, as she selflessly devoted her youth to supporting her mother and caring for her younger siblings among the staggering count of 17.
Gay Francis Trotty's journey unfolded as she birthed six children before eventually settling in Lubbock, TX. As the years passed, her children grew into adults, embarking on their individual paths to pursue dreams and aspirations. Amidst this tapestry of life, one significant moment occurred when her second child, Anthony Clyde Trotty, brought into the world a baby girl named Sherri Antwynett Trotty on August 3, 1981.

Little did Sherri know that a profound and unbreakable bond would form between her and her Granny. Gay Francis Trotty embraced Sherri with a love so deep and pure that it felt as if she had given birth to her herself. Amidst jokes about the inevitability of aging, Granny imparted wisdom that Sherri, in her youthful innocence, couldn't fully grasp at the time. "Keep on living, you gonna get old one day too," Granny would say. Sherri laughed it off, not realizing the depth of the truth behind those words.
Now, 30 years later, Sherri reflects on her Granny's words with a newfound understanding. The journey of "The Longest Goodbye" unfolds as Sherri takes readers on a poignant exploration of the enduring connection between a girl and her Granny. Through the lens of shared laughter, life lessons, and the inevitability of growing old, Sherri Trotty-Morgan captures the essence of a love that transcends time, leaving readers with a touching testament to the unbreakable bonds that shape our lives
